When did you first hear of Darren? I remember hearing I Want You in 1997 but didn't know who Savage Garden was until a year later.
How did you become a Savage Garden/Darren fan? I loved I Want You, To The Moon And Back and Truly Madly Deeply but I didn't know until later that they were all from the same band. It was hearing the remix to Break Me Shake Me on radio in 1997/8 that got me really into Savage Garden, and I have been a fan ever since.
How did you get involved with the Darren Hayes Street Team? I'd been hearing about in on the various BBSes but found out more about it when I joined DarrenHayesCollective in 2001. Seeing that there wasn't an Asian group yet, I decided to form one!
Ever met Darren? No, but I've been to a Savage Garden showcase and I am VERY SURE Darren had seen me...who wouldn't notice a crazy screaming fan in the front row holding a teddy bear and blowing kisses at you?!? :-)
Ever seen Darren/Savage Garden perform live? Yes - a showcase in the TV3 studios in Shah Alam (Malaysia), January 29th 2000. Best moment of my life. Savage Garden was AMAZING! Even got myself on TV for that since it was especially for a TV recording and only a few select fans (about 200) were invited.
Luckiest Darren experience : Asha from Channel [V] called me up one afternoon and asked me for my help coz she was going to interview Darren the next morning! I sent her some questions, a LOT of info about Darren and a thousand thank-yous in between :-) She got me a recorded message from
Darren (which is on the site), a signed notebook (Tiara, Thanks so much for
being so supportive. With SO MUCH love & thanks, Darren) and a few other
goodies. Now Darren knows who I am, yippee... :-)
How famous a Darren fan are you? Very! I was on TV3 for the Shah Alam showcase. Power 98 FM generally knows me as "the girl from JB who faxes in voting for Savage Garden almost every day" :-) and I manage Channel [V]'s fan website so they know me. Channel [V] knows I'm a crazy Darren/SG fan too...they even got my sister on live once (all the way from the UK!) just to dedicate a SG song to me coz I'm such a fan. Aaww...
Has Darren/Savage Garden changed your life? Oh definitely. They've become such an integral part of my life, they're almost like family in a way. They've given me ideas and inspiration, and their music gives me space to escape whenever the world is bringing me down. It has also become a dear hobby and has brought me many friends from all over the world! They've also given me something to live for...if it wasn't for them, I won't be alive long enough to write this.
What do you think of Darren's solo material? I've only heard Insatiable and it's BRILLIANT, completely NOT what I expected - which in a way is good! The song titles are a bit corny (then again I've always had a problem with most song titles in the world) but knowing Darren, he's bound to have a way to make them work.
If you could have 3 Darren-related wishes fulfilled, what would it be? To talk to Darren, to be in/direct his music video and to watch him perform live. What else is there short of marrying him... ;-)
If you could tell Darren one thing, what would it be? "Thanks for everything, Darren, you're the greatest!" :-)
